Facebook Buying WhatsApp

Facebook is trying every possible option to increase its mobile market share. Previously, the social networking giant announced that it would be coming up with a Gifts service, which is more like an online retail store in the US before the Christmas vacation. Now, TechCrunch has reported that Facebook is in talks to take over WhatsApp. WhatsaApp is a popular messaging platform across all platforms like BlackBerry, Android, Symbian and more.

One of the major advantages of buying WhatsApp is that the platform is a paid messaging service. As of now, WhatsApp can be used for an year for free and after which the users needs to pay a subscription fee of $0.99, which would give an advantageous business model for Facebook for expanding its footstep in the mobile market.

On the the other hand, Facebook's new gift service would enable users to buy gifts and send them to their friends. Facebook has set up its own shipping and inventory tracking system to operate the gift service. Users can select gifts such as gift cards from iTunes, Starbucks and products from retailers like Baby Gap, Lindt chocolate etc. After an average public offering so far, Facebook is looking at different quadrants to boost investors's interest and its business. The social networking giant is also focusing on mobile advertisements and is actively tracking its user's web browsing patterns which would help in providing relevant advertisements.
